1.) There are things in some of the side folders in my gallery that are not in my main, featured gallery (mostly old works that I am embarrassed about or quickies I did not feel were up to snuff). bjpentecost.deviantart.com/gal…

2.) In my folder entitled "Essays and Articles," I have two submissions that, while written informally, contain a number of art tips that I have collected/discovered over the years. I wrote it a long time ago so I will be going back over it to add, subtract, amend.

3.) This is my most accurate portrait to date: bjpentecost.deviantart.com/#/a… It was painted in traditional water color on paper.

4.) Pretty much everything you could ever possibly want to know about me can be found here: bjpentecost.deviantart.com/art… (updated) Although if you have any additional questions, I'd be happy to answer them. :)

5.) I use Photoshop, Zbrush, and Blender. Most of my work is done in Photoshop. I will be posting a tutorial of my work progress soon. (When I get the time. I have been horrendously busy lately.)

6.) I am visually impaired. My vision is 20/400 without glasses. Even with corrective lenses, I still cannot see very well as I suffer from exophoria (among other possible issues which no doctor in the state of FL seems to be able to identify).

7.) I am VERY interested in the transhumanist/H+ movement though I think Ray Kurzweil is mostly an over-optimistic quack.

8.) My new favorite medium is 3D printing. I will be offering this guy: www.shapeways.com/model/203711… for sale soon. First, I must order a test print. I always order a test print before offering my stuff for sale just in case. Sometimes, issues can arise. For example, with my dragon skull, Shapeways' "thin walls fix" screwed up some of the geometry so I had to go back and fix it manually. Unfortunately, Shapeways sent out some of those defective models. XC The blemishes were minor and I haven't heard anything from any unhappy customers but still. So this guy will not be going on sale until I can afford to order a test print first. Also, I may be making some design changes, namely to make him look more like he used to: bjpentecost.deviantart.com/art… The lid and the handles won't be added though. I tossed those. Unnecessary and adds tot he cost. I may make another dragon jar with the tail as the handle, someday, when I get the time. Very busy. -____o;

That is all..... for now. Muahahah.

It's basically the idea that human evolution will be self-guided by technology. I'm on my ipad ATM so that's the best answer I can give. xc lol. I think Wikipedia has a good article on it.

Thank you for sharing.

Hope all is getting better at your end; I've just started a part time course, so haven't been as vocal, but still lurking.

Things are getting a little better. Money is always a problem (they cut my father's pay by 40% so we're making due on almost half of what we were used to. -___O). But things are looking better. :) Thanks for asking. ^__^

Hee, I feel you on Kurzweil. :D I really respect what he's done for the disabled, especially the blind, but his books go from "could be interesting" to "oh god, Ray, stop telling us about your weird fetishes! D: " way too fast. :D

XD Lol. I haven't actually read his books but I have listened to several of his online lectures. Weird fetishes eh? Now I'm curious. =P Also, work with the blind? I wasn't aware of that. I will have to look into it. :)

I only read part of one of his books and he kind of just went off the rails predicting the future and started talking about how one part of this fictional lady's mind was always focused on having sex with her virtual reality assistant. XD I quit reading after several chapters of that. XD

Aside from his bizarre future predictions, Kurzweil has done a lot of good for the blind. He was one of the first people to invent a useful, working scanner that could convert text into a digital format that could be read out loud by text-to-speech programs. His company teamed with the National Federation of the Blind to make the KNFB reader not too long ago; it's a smart phone scanner program that allows the blind to take a picture with their phone of text and read it. I want it sooooo bad.

"Exophoria", had to google that, learned something new today!

Another transhumanist, yay!  "Ray Kurzweil" had to google him too and I can't say I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Kurzwiel comes across to me like an extremely over-optimistic, sensationalist, snake-oil peddling zealot. He does occasionally make some good points and some of his views are not without merit. However, many of the good points he makes get lost in the frantic insistence that by 2045 we are going to be immortal, transcendent technological gods of the universe. Hey, maybe we will be. Maybe I'm wrong. But I doubt it, especially not at the rate we're moving.

I don't expect to see anything remotely transhumanist within my lifetime.  Robot bodies are great...but without the storage and processing power on par or greater than the human brain, and with no real system to sustain the brain in an artificial body, I don't see that sort of technology making much progress in the next 30 years and until we get rid of the anti-science backward-ass thinking about gene manipulation, we're not going anywhere on that front either.  I'm certain technology will aid in humanity overcoming the human condition, eventually, but I don't see that eventuality as any time remotely soon.

I think it is possible that we could see longevity technology/gene enhancement/other in our lifetimes BUT only if the very problem you mentioned (anti-science backward-ass thinking) goes away. :\ I am actually working on a sort of artistic treatise/proposal for how we could bring this future about more rapidly. But the big obstacle is you can't convince some people no matter what. I mean, for fuck's sake, 60% of our country (USA) doesn't accept evolution. T__T

Yeah, and unless we're willing to eliminate the mindset in ways that usually get ideologies forcefully shut down, getting people to change their minds is really the only option out there.

Do! I find it's helpful all around. For example, I get asked A LOT of I have any art tips *points people to number 2* I also occasionally get asked if I have any examples of my older work. Sometimes I get asked personal questions. I might actually make my profile pic into a sort of directory. Here you can find my fur tutorial and here you can find my art tips and here you can find all the evidence of my terrifying, Baker Act-worthy insanity. :D
