What have I been up to lately? Ep1 by BJPentecost What have I been up to lately? Ep1 by BJPentecost
I've been getting some pokes from people asking me what I've been up to so I figured I might as well upload a teaser of all the things I have been working on. I have been 3D printing, working on commissions, making Christmas gifts, and a whole slew of other things. I am a very busy bizzle. ;P Sadly, this isn't even the whole picture. I still have a metric !@#$%^&*ton of crap in my backburner and WIP folders. XD ZEEEEEESH.

To anyone who is actually paying attention and has read the part about articulable spine modeling, please leave a comment. I'd love to discuss the matter and I don't mind doing so in the comments section. Here are the criteria for spine modeling:

1.) Must be able to bend in all directions (I'm thinking ball joints?).

2.) No barrel-rolling. I don't want the vertebrae to spin around.

3.) Design must be as low poly as possible without sacrificing aesthetic, function, or structural integrity.

4.) Must be sturdy as it will be supporting wings, limbs, and head.

5.) Must conform to FDP rules (will explain if need be).

So far what I've come up with is a very carefully constructed ball and socket joint spine with the ball parts being slightly football shaped to prevent rolling but if you have better suggestions, let me know for sure. :)

I design a model in Zbrush and/or Blender then I submit the model to: ; :)

wow these are so amazing! I wish I was better at computer modeling and "blendoring" although I haven't tried that program yet, but I know it takes a while to learn and i've had no time to learn a new program right now. I am bette at thinking in 3-d though it really would be SO helpful to be able to sculpt myself references. These are truly beautiful and very well done though!

Thanks. ^__^ I <3 making my own 3D models. It is very helpful. Just be aware that if you do go this route, people WILL give you shit. -____-;

give you shit how? How can someone give you shit over this? It's like sculpting. I tried messing in sculptris which is a free program, but I cant figure it out at ALL I just can't get it to do what I want it to do lol. I am better with my hands. I can make something out of almost anything and even sculpt in wire, but can't figure out a damn program for it lol. But yea when I am ready I may see if you and I can work something out if you want to Sculpt my dragon human hybrid character for reference in the future at some point. His horns are SUCH A PAIN I even made a 5 minute sculpy thingy just to look at even though it wasn't baked or anything haha.

Yeah. :\ But people are judgmental assholes. I've had several people call it cheating because well, ya know, it's soo much harder to draw a figure from one angle in one pose than sculpt it in 3 dimensions, getting it correct from 360 degrees. XD I would challenge any of these idiots to try 3D. I bet they'll be crying after 10 minutes.

OMG people are dumb!!! What, do they think you just pick your nose and it magically generates a perfect 3d model? I quit 3D computer class after my first class because I WAS crying! I have such bad luck! Our assignment was to model a room (we were using Maya at the time) and then we were going to have to texture, and light the room. I still dont remember how to do any of that and screwed it all up, but SOMEHOW after 2 weeks of modelling all of my objects magically vanished. I DID save another version but that one got corrupted or something. They had one of the 3d teachers that was like the head of the department come in and she had never seen anything like it, and I wound up having to redo the whole assignment and got a c-.. lol that sort of scarred me towards 3D. I wish I could figure out the program though, i think it would be a great tool.

 I am GREAT with thinking dimentionally which is why I think scratchboard makes sense to me because in a way its like sculpting out your shape and leaving the rest, but you cant really add to that.

Have you considered trying Sculptris? It's free and from what I understand, not to hard to learn. Once you learn one, learning the other ones becomes progressively easier.

I think thats what I actually ahve on my laptop but I haven't been able to figure it out yet lol.
