WIP Naira Commission by BJPentecost WIP Naira Commission by BJPentecost
I haven't posted anything in so long because I have been busy working. However, I intend to take a break soon so there will be an influx of artwork. :3 As to what this is, it's a WIP commission for Naira. I sculpted up a basic idea in Zbrush, rendered it, and will paint over the final render. Total time spent so far.... probably about 6 hours. It's just supposed to be a way of getting basic lighting and pose so obviously it's kinda rough.

Also, I might clean up and refine the model, sculpt a base, and ship it off to Shapeways..... maybe.

Out of curiosity, what species is she supposed to be based on?  She's lovely, and you posed her beautifully.

Thanks. :) I think Naira's character is a wolf with goat horns.

Have you ever considered selling models on the DAZ3d or Renderosity marketplace? I imagine something like this could sell quite well there. Same with your newer anthro 3d dragon. Simply awesome looking stuff, and far better looking than any "anthro" model currently on those marketplaces.

Thanks. ^__^ I have actually considered it and I was working with someone towards that end but I think I pissed her off. I'm good at making things look nice in 3D but making them functional can be very difficult. XC I still haven't ruled out that possibility though. ^_^ I might try again someday, if I get the time.

You could also use the Genesis model of DAZ Studio and make morphs, which are one of the most lucratively demanded things in DAZ Studio. I myself use them a lot, but not as much as I would like for my anthro pictures. Problem is, there just aren't enough specific anthro/furry species for Genesis like the Fennec - the fox in general! I've sometimes wanted a ferret or two, but to no avail. Not to mention the different types of dogs. Sure, you can rig something up with multiple morphs and a postwork or two, but at least the dogs all come out looking like either jackals or terriers with small, pointy ears that you can't do too much with. :/
There's also Geo-grafting, where you make your own "attachments" to Genesis, which have almost limitless opportunities. I would think it'd be something more up your alley and maybe easier than tackling Genesis itself. (And believe you me, there maybe Genesis 2 and now 3 but they pale in comparison with the power of the main Genesis figure, ask many people.) A bushy tail now has to be manufactured with hair simulations, where a Geografted "Generic Bushy Tail" with the right displacements and textures would cover a multitude of things!
(Textures are also your thing, I see. Need those bad for anthro renders too!)
I'm pretty sure that Thrakki and I would be the first in line to buy your products - or, to go a step further, to be beta testers. I personally would give an honest and appreciative and thorough review, though technical jargon is a little over my head. :)

These are decent possibilities but my understanding of the Poser Infrastructure is really weak. I would need someone to help me, to show me the ropes and whatnot. Ultimately, what I would love to do, if I had the right people to help me and all necessary resources in hand, would be to create a line of anthros purely of my own design (not based on Genesis). I would make a base wolf, base feline, base dragon, base horse, and a few other bases. From those bases I would build an entire anthro library. Base feline could easily be modified to make lion, tiger, leopard, etc. Base horse could become unicorn, deer, antelope, gazelle, etc.

Unfortunately, I just don't have the technical knowledge. I know how to make things look pretty and that's about it. I'd need some one to do the rigging for me, to make sure the topology was good, and to help me debug any problems that crop up. I had someone who worked with me but she got flustered and impatient because I was having difficulty with the rigging and she just stopped talking to me. :\ In my defense, she was super impatient and not very friendly about it. I kinda got the impression that I was just a means to an end for her.

Anyway, thanks for the thoughts. Who knows? Maybe someday, a Poser Master interested in working with me on anthros will fall into my lap. :P

Hopefully we're not thinking about the same she. O.o
Regardless, there are few and far between good anthro masters, apparently, either have the knowhow but not the desire nor the time - or wanting to hop on the Genesis 2/3 bandwagon - or like you have their specialty and technical awesomeness in one area.
I was suggesting Genesis because it's one of the most powerful figures you can do stuff with. Also because it's the only thing I use anymore, 'cept in crowds. (Even got some software that converts poses and morphs of the V4/M4 franchises to Genesis. ^_^)

"Hopefully we're not thinking about the same she." I'd rather not name-drop. I don't think she's a bad person or anything. We just didn't mesh well. It happens sometimes. I'm curious who you think I'm talking about but if you don't want to name-drop either, I understand.

The problem with using genesis is that there are (in my understanding) limits to what can be done. I was told that you can't redo the UV maps so I would have to use her existing maps (don't know if that is true or not anymore or if it ever was).  Also, there is only so far you can mold a human face before it starts to look ridiculous. The facial topology might not conduce well with what I'd want to do. The add-on idea might compensate for this though.

Even still, the problem remains. I'd need someone willing to do a lot of handholding.

It'll stay a mutual mystery, as was intended. ^_^
If you can get permission to use the Creature Creator morphs, you can morph Genesis and then import that into your software to morph the rest of the way.
There are a lot of UV maps and templates now, and if you have the knowhow - which I don't - you can make metadata for your own.
Heh, sorry if I'm not much help. Just you're the first one to even consider talking about it! (Instead of a friendly but firm, "sorry, I'm busy. Good luck to you!")

Heh. :) No problem. I certainly don't mind talking about it because it is something I realy do have an interest in but unfortunately, I would really need someone to help me through it and I haven't found anyone as of yet. Maybe I shuld make a kickstarter. :P Hey.... now there's an idea. Hm......

Know exactly what you mean. Rigging models is something of an art itself!

I'd definitely pay money to be able to use high quality models like yours, and I think many others would too. If you do find the time--I know of someone who you could possibly work with for rigging the models.

that is so amazing BJ *_* I am not worthy D:

Just out of curiosity, when you say you paint over the final render, do you mean you take a screenshot of the render and paint over the jpg. in photoshop or does zbrush actually let you paint over your 3D models?

Looking beautiful! It would make for a pretty impressive sculpture. The more I've seen of what Shapeways and other 3D printers are capable of, the more impressed I am with them. I've seen one guy here that makes some really cool Portal-themed rings and other jewelry for geeks. :D

So to clarify just what Zbrush is. It's a digital sculpting program yes? That you paint on as if it were real? But everything takes place through digital media?

Zbrush is a digital sculpting program. The best way I can put it is like this: Photoshop is to painting what Zbrush is to clay sculpting. With my workflow, I will sometimes just go straight to painting but other times, I like to sculpt things up in Zbrush and then paint over a render.
