Monster Book Cover by BJPentecost Monster Book Cover by BJPentecost
If I can save up enough money, I'd like to 3Dprint this out and glue it to a sketchbook I own. I'd then paint it to look hyper realistic. I would probably have to use this material: www.shapeways.com/materials/st… because it is the cheapest, sturdiest polymer. It comes out to 150$ in SWF plastic (I'm not doing so well with money atm so this will have to wait). I don't think I will ever be wealthy enough to just toss around 350$ like it's nothing but if I ever was, I'd love to 3D print this in the transparent detail plastic: www.shapeways.com/materials/de… With the right application of paint and nail polish, it would have this eerie, gummy, transparentish look to it. I'd paint the claws with a clear nail polish and give it maybe just the smallest tinge of color. *Siggghhhhhhh* I wish I were a millionaire. Then again, I'd probably blow every cent of it on 3D printing. XD Heh.

Nice.  Someone spent a lot of time in Zbrush :D

I've been perusing 3D printers and came across this one. . . .

store.makerbot.com/replicator-…

I figure if you're gonna do this, may as well go for the gusto.  ( 12L x 12W x 18H printing size is pretty big for a home printer )

It's a little pricey, but less than a decent camera lens I guess :D

Also damned heavy lol. . . . 90 lbs !!

Guessing a full size print job would take quite some time to produce.   And you thought you hated waiting on long render times was bad :D   lol

Aye. :D I've seen that one. You know what one I REALLY want though? I want the Mcor Iris. OOOOoooooohhhhhh it looks so awesome. 15,000$ though. O__O Guh. But you get full color and the materials are super inexpensive. :D I think I may have already mentioned this to you? Possibly? I think. XD In any case, it's really frigging cool and I want one. XD But that's unlikely so I'll stay with Shapeways for now. In the future, however, I may be looking for a 3D printer of my own. Definitely keeping Makerbot in mind. :boogie:

The sad thing is, give it a few years and the price of that beast will be half of what it is today :D

here is a site i like to shop at...they sell suff real cheap and in bulk if you want.

here are some colors and types you can look through

www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?S…

and here is some transparent....

www.aliexpress.com/item/3S-5-9…

you can get great deals on this site if you look through well enough....they dont always have the stuff listed properly...sometimes you have to look a couple of hours. keep an eye on the shipping cause some sellers rip you off....there are plenty with free shipping. also look at the sellers rating if its 98% or higher with a lot of sales those are the ones to buy from. they also sell the 3D printers there too.

good luck and i hope ive helped you some =^.^=

You could carve it out of wax and have it cast in metal at an artist's foundry.  They use the lost-wax method, so it can manage high levels of detail.  I have no idea how much it'll cost, but I'm certain it won't amount to $350, unless you ask for a precious metal like silver, of course.  Actually, I have no idea what the cost is of foundry casting, but it's an option you can explore.

Thanks. :3 And nope. I am very familiar with biology. I have a very well developed internal reference for organic, biological structures. Now buildings and vehicles...... not so much. XD

Makes sense; some artists are good with inorganic shapes, and some are better at organic curves.

Either way, you have a lot of talent. Keep them coming

couldn't you put it up at the #-d printer so that others can print it out and you get payed for it then with that you could buy your own from what people pay to get a copy this way your art pays for it self so to speak

and it looks amazing

oops look like i missed my error i mean 3d not #-d
but i have seen that some people have 3d printing where people can submit there ideas and get a commision form the printers for people buying there designs so it is a way to possibly gt that clear one eventualy

I would love to and I could but............ here's the problem. The base cost of making this at Shapeways is 150$. How many people do you know of who are willing to spend 150$ on something like this (plus shipping and handling so more like 160$)? Furthermore, for me to actually make any money, I'd have to put a markup on it. If I put a 1$ markup on it and three people purchased it, congrats! I made 3$. XD If I put a higher markup to actually make money, the price goes up and the likelihood of someone buying it decreases. On top of all that, this is made to fit a very specific sketchbook so it would not fit on just any book.

So at the end of the day, the likelihood of me actually making money off this is very, very low- practically nil. I've made money off my other models, which is nice, but I use that to pay bills. XC I have absurd student loans, medical issues, and other things going on.

humms could you not set it to a standard reading book size and sadly or in your case maybe not sadly but a good thing there are people whom would spend that sort of money for things
i would put a 50 or 25 dollar mark up on it for that item and you might get a few nibbles whom knows what could it hurt at 50 that 3 people at 25 that 6 that only have to buy it couldn't hurt to try and with the design you have it is gorgeous alot of people would like it i am sure

would love to see you make something on this beautiful piece and be able to get the one you want it just a thought

keep up the beautiful work no matter what either way

i hope you don't think i am being rude as i would love to see you holding your own copy of this beautiful piece and there is alot of harry potter fans whom would love this sort of book cover for them selfs , as to them even thou yours is different it would still tickle them pink

...wow. I'm speechless. Except on the third pic it really doesn't look like a 3D modell :O_o:
Is 3D print so expensive? :O_o: If I remeber right we have cheaper printstores here in Germany but that's maybe because we use it often for the industry

What do you mean it doesn't look like a3D model? Are you thinking it looks photographic? If so, behold the powers of Zbrush's BPR!

To print in SWF plastic (my first choice) it is 150$. To print in transparent detail plastic, it would be 325$+. T__T Lately, I've taken a lot of HUGE financial hits and I really can't afford frivolous spending on things like this, no matter how much I might want it. But I'm going to save up and print this out eventually. I have a few friends who have 3D printers and I might consider asking them how much they'd charge but..... I hate bothering people. XD

Well.. in this case you could ask them if they maybe want one too? ;)
